Title: Cultural Relations Manager

Our mission at People of Culture is to curate and showcase black culture, offering a visual lens for Africa to tell its unique story through various art forms, lifestyle, music, fashion, and technology. We are dedicated to rewriting the African narrative and celebrating the success of the Black community. 

We are seeking a Cultural Relations Manager to join our team and help us strengthen relationships with cultural organizations, secure grant sponsorships, and support our communication efforts.

Position Overview:

As the Cultural Relations Manager at People of Culture, you will play a pivotal role in expanding our network of cultural partners, securing grants to support our mission, and enhancing our communication efforts. You will be the key liaison between our organization and cultural institutions within Chicago and beyond. This role requires a proactive, creative, and highly organized individual with a passion for cultural diversity and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities:

Cultural Partnerships Development (Primary):

  • Identify and research cultural organizations, community groups, and institutions in the Chicago area and beyond.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with these organizations to facilitate collaboration and cultural exchange.
  • Work closely with partners to co-create events, workshops, and projects that promote cultural awareness and understanding.

Grant Sponsorship Acquisition (Primary):

  • Identify grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and corporations that align with People of Culture's mission and initiatives.
  • Develop and submit grant proposals, including writing, budgeting, and reporting, to secure funding for our programs and projects.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of grant deadlines, requirements, and outcomes.

Communication Support (Secondary):

  • Collaborate with our communication team to create compelling content, including newsletters, press releases, and social media updates, to showcase our partnerships and grant-funded initiatives.
  • Assist in planning and executing events, workshops, and campaigns to promote People of Culture's mission and engage the community.
  • Monitor and report on the impact and reach of our communication efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field (e.g., nonprofit management, communications, cultural studies, business).
  • Proven experience in partnership development and grant writing for non-profit organizations.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Passion for cultural diversity, inclusion, and community engagement.

Position Overview:

As a Content Creator and Distribution Specialist at People of Culture, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our organization's narrative and expanding our reach through engaging and thought-provoking content on YouTube and other digital platforms. You will work closely with our creative team to ideate, produce, and distribute compelling content that resonates with our audience and advances our mission of fostering cultural understanding and appreciation.

Key Responsibilities:

Content Ideation and Creation:

  • Brainstorm and develop innovative and culturally relevant content ideas for YouTube videos that align with People of Culture's mission and values.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to conceptualize, script, and storyboard video content that resonates with diverse audiences and sparks meaningful conversations.
  • Ensure that all content adheres to brand guidelines and reflects the organization's commitment to inclusivity and cultural sensitivity.

Video Production and Editing:

  • Oversee the end-to-end production process, including filming, editing, and post-production, to create high-quality and visually compelling videos.
  • Utilize your creative vision and technical expertise to enhance storytelling through visual and auditory elements, such as music, graphics, and animations.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends and best practices in video production techniques and tools to continuously improve the quality and impact of our content.

Content Distribution and Promotion:

  • Develop a strategic distribution plan to maximize the reach and engagement of our YouTube content across various digital platforms and social media channels.
  • Optimize video titles, descriptions, and tags for search engine optimization (SEO) to improve discoverability and ranking on YouTube and other search platforms.
  • Monitor analytics and performance metrics to assess the effectiveness of content distribution strategies and identify opportunities for optimization and growth.

Community Engagement and Outreach:

  • Foster meaningful connections with our audience by actively engaging with comments, feedback, and inquiries on our YouTube channel and other digital platforms.
  • Cultivate partnerships and collaborations with influencers, content creators, and organizations aligned with our mission to amplify our reach and impact.
  • Represent People of Culture at events, conferences, and community gatherings to promote our content and build relationships with stakeholders and supporters.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Film Production, Digital Media, Communications, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in video production, editing, and storytelling, with a strong portfolio showcasing your creative skills and technical proficiency.
  • Proficiency in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing principles and content distribution strategies across social media platforms, particularly YouTube.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas and emotions through visual storytelling.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
